The conservation of the endangered noble pen shell and its associated populations in the Mediterranean is crucial due to human activities, environmental factors, and diseases. This project aims to develop and implement a conservation strategy that will ensure the long-term survival of these species and populations. The project is being carried out by a consortium of partners, including universities, research institutions, non-governmental organizations, and marine professionals.
Through research, monitoring, and management activities, the project seeks to enhance the natural recruitment of the species and promote conservation actions such as restocking, while educating stakeholders and the general public about the importance of these species and the need to protect them.
The project is expected to provide valuable information and tools for the conservation and management of the Pinna nobilis and associated populations in the Mediterranean Sea and beyond.
